What paint did you use for the face recondition? Getting ready to try this for the first time?
Hey Brad, how do the restored clubs hold up over time vs the original finishes? Love your work BTW... great job
That's what's up those nickel plated clubs are some 🔥
Cool Awesome
Best restoration I’ve seen to date .. great work 💪🏻😊
Thank you!
Does acetone work
Hi. Acetone used on which step?
@@BradMeehan restoring scratches and dents on metal woods and clubs
@michelemollusco4326 No, you would to sand and polish to remove scratches.
@@BradMeehan thanks so much
On average what do you charge per club
Copper looks nice fresh out of the elcrto bath but tarnishes very quickly.
hellow there.! i've watched several of your videos. have try it on my wedge also, the result is AMAZING!can't thanks you enough for these videos. for polishing the shiny club, you pretty much covered everything already, but i wanna ask, what about the non shiny looking clubs, like p790 or wedges like sm8 or sm9 which have a doff metal color, how do we do the repair? thanks a lot in advanced
Thanks for the comments! Check out my latest video of the Tommy Armour 845s. I use a sandblaster for dull the shine. You can use the handheld sandblaster to do it in the equipment links.
hey brad, love your videos, Ive been trying to restore an old set of miura blades, and have been having trouble stripping the finish off of them. I was wondering if you had any idea the best way to remove the plating. Im not sure if its chrome or nickel, ive sanded the sole down and removed most of that but its tedious, and cant see myself doing that to a whole set. Any info you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the videos!
Thanks! Muriatic acid removes the chrome layer, then you neutralize the acid by rinsing in water/baking soda. 15 minutes or so will do it. Doing it outside is best.
@@BradMeehan i did that, does the acid neutralizer remove the rest of the chrome? the sole looks like the post of when you do it, but its not removing the plating at all really. Ill get some photos tomorrow and send them to you. Thanks for the input though.
Check out this video that talks about the layers. This is only removing the chrome layer. ua-cam.com/video/ydC3QXq4IsM/v-deo.html
Well... I have to try this now.. i have these clubs. Im not s handy person at all but youve inspired me... Thank you. Your channel is brilliant
Excellent! 👏👏 Thxz for taking the time to share your talents!
Can you copper plate mine brand new iron heads if I send them to you?
Outstanding vids! Would this be an acceptable finish on Ping i3s? Like a soda blasting appearance?
Thanks. Yes, it's the exact same process as the Pings.
Hey, Ben. Great video! Could you possibly make a video regarding any learning resources that would be good for beginners? Thanks!
Yes, check out my How To playlist. It has all of the tutorials for each step. Thanks!
@BradMeehan thanks for the reply. I've watched them all 😅. More wondering if you know of any good external resources, i.e., books, sites, etc.
Awesome video! I have a set of Maxfli TM-92 Australian Blades and I have had them in my bag since I won them in a raffle in 1993! The golf club I played at every week back then gave them away in a raffle. I think because they couldn't sell them. I remember MSRP was $475 back then which was a respectable set in 93! Everybody was buying cav backs back then and the average golfers around there probably couldn't swing a blade very well. ;) Mine are in pretty great shape and definitely no rust like that one you had and I do maintain a respectable 6-10 handicap with them so I can swing them OK. I would love to get all those bag rattle dings out of them but I don't have all the equipment to scotchbrite them out, re-sandblast and re-plate them although even when I got them brand new they never were as shiny as yours is after the re-furb. A duller more satin finish was more original. Do they really need the electroplate step or can you get away without?
Love that you still have these in the bag. Very cool. Yes, if you have any exposed steel, it will corrode again soon even though it looks shiny at the time. And the original nickel has that dull, yellow look, so it looks uneven. Plating is really easy to do. Check out my electroless nickel video for a different method. You can get great results with sandpaper alone, so don't worry about having a bunch of tools. I made a video on how to make your own polisher too.
What type of paint is used. I'd like to redo my logo with pink paint
Good job, but from where did I get this chemical in UAE?
Outstanding work!
When I was studying jewellery and metalsmithing that you should always have a dedicated polishing wheel for each type of abrasive in order not to negate the polishing stage that you had just completed. For deep scratches we started wet sanding with 220 grit wet or dry sandpaper, then 400#, 600#, then to tripoli and then rouge. As the polishing progressed you could see where you missed removing some scratches so it required going back to the previous grit then working your way back up. I have never used a buffing wheel for multiple grits of polish, and when completing one grit a quick wash with a good detergent such as Tide in order to remove any remaining polish with its carrier.
I agree. I now use a dedicated wheel for each compound.
That is spectacular. Thank you!!
This came out so sexy!!! All that work would be worth it IMO. By chance is there a way to add nickel back to the club or turn the nickel black?
That was more zen-ful than 2 hours of yoga.
Amazing job. You've turned and old, filthy Big Bertha into a Miss America. Congratulations! Your channel is my favorite stop from now on. Thank you for sharing your expertise.
How many heads can you plate with that kit?
Why use chemical strippers if you hit it with the abrassive belts?
What is the application that roughens the club face. Flat grey.
It's a handheld sandblaster. Check out the equipment link in the description to see one.
Do you need the degreaser? Or can you just do the nickel plating without it?
(Learning) 🤔 Curious why not use the paint stripper on the top and sides of the driver? I have a TM Spider Tour Black that I want to refinish.
I wanted to take advantage of the adhesion between the existing paint so I could paint over it versus trying to establish a new bond between the titanium and primer.
@@BradMeehan Thanks. That makes total sense. Appreciate the pointers.
Your work is incredible. ❤
Artistry!
Is the nickel plating the 2nd to last step? Do OEM have an additional chrome plating on top of the nickel?
what would happen if you just stopped after sandblasting the face? would it be "raw" and you would get rust? or is there still finish on the club
There's still nickel on it, so not purely raw. I have a video called Make it Black where I remove all the nickel to make it raw.
@@BradMeehan what would you see if you did not remove the nickel, will you run into issues down the road or are they still be good to go?
having watched so many restoration videos, my dead ass thought welding is answer to all gashes lmao. good job on restoring this beautiful blade. good video.
ebay $xx used now $xxx brand new
I’ve heard that you can use this method to the nickel plate aluminum without creating the usual corrosion. Can you confirm this?
Great job
Hands down the best club restoration channel I have found. From production to instruction your channel is great! I have wanted to try this for a long time, I just don’t know if I have the patience. On top of it all … it appears we may share a similar geographical location. #KCBBQISBETTERTHANALLOTHERS
The late great Ram golf.
Hi Brad. If I sent you a set of irons would you get them polished up for me?
you could have just done a quick sand and paint over it and it would have looked just as good
clubs are tools not jewels, they are very well used, no amount of paint will fix that.
how thick is that nickel coating?
its like putting lipstick on a granny
Just like a restored GTO
What type of abrasive media do you use? Thanks!😊
It's the glass beads.
From one Brad to another: I take my hat off to your skills. I have two university degrees and they seem devalued now against your knowledge.
Hi, Other Brad. Thanks for the nice compliment. I hope you give this a try. It's really easy to do, and I'd be happy to answer any questions you have along the way.
Imma go find a Santa at the mall and sit on his lap and ask for one of these for Christmas.
I keep thinking of that movie Bad Santa when I picture that.
What type of paint do you recommend to touch up the writing and accent areas on irons?
Any enamel paint will work. Even nail polish. I have a paint fill video here in the HOW TO playlist.
@@BradMeehan Thank you!
Oh and sorry how long did you leave it in the “mild acid bath” for? V best
15 minutes is good.
